Sustainability
This project will continue. As long as an effort is made to stimulate schoolchildren to walk, bike or take the bus to school, the effects will remain visible. The effects will be sustainable for the future because as the children grow up, the hope is that their behaviour towards walking, biking and public transport will remain positive. This has, however, not been measured in Udine.
The project's interventions are easy to transfer to other cities, regions or countries.

Intersectoral collaboration
This project was the result of collaborations between the municipality of Udine, local public transport organizations, the police, school authorities and parents.

Ease of implementation: Lessons learned
A key factor to the success of the project was the municipality of Udine's support and permission to make changes to the way urban traffic is organized. Something to consider for future implementations is the overprotective attitude of some parents who prefer to drive their children to school on rainy days, are afraid the weight of schoolbags causes physical damage, and find streets unsuitable. The fear the school authorities have of letting children go out on their own for reasons of liability should also be taken into account. Needless to say, all of these concerns can be dealt with.
