The aims and objectives were:
- To implement walking school busses as a pilot project at selected schools in Degerfors, Karlskoga and Örebro.
- Following evaluation, to apply the knowledge resulting from the pilot project to other areas.
The intervention consisted of:
A walking school bus is open to anyone who is interested. It is easiest to implement for families in the same neighbourhood with children in the same class, and therefore with the same roster. Either the adults walk around to collect the children at home, or a fixed 'bus stop' is agreed. In areas where the walking school bus was tested, it was recommended that five families get together to form a 'bus', meaning that each family would be responsible one day a week.
